Abstract

Consumer driven health plans refer to the measures by consumers pertaining their health care in terms of the health providers and costs. In this case these health care models are organized and structured by the consumers, under which they pool resources together and merge to form a system that will ensure that their health care is catered for and managed effectively. More so, these consumer health care systems are faced by various challenges which inhibit their efficiency and effectiveness in the course of operations. In addition, it has been observed that the obstacles facing the success of human health care plans are found both inside and outside these organizations.

The Challenges facing consumer driven health care plans

Consumer driven health care plans have been faced by various problems that inhibit their success in achieving their goals and objectives, leading to their inefficiency and ineffectiveness in the course of operations. In general terms, consumer driven health care plans are faced by a variety of challenges which influence their operations leading to their failure towards accomplishing the set goals and objectives. As it has been observed, the challenges facing the Consumer Driven Health Plans are triggered by the factors from either inside or outside the organization (Herzlinqer, 2004).

These consumer driven health care plans are faced by the challenge of controlling and managing the health care costs as expected. More specifically, most consumer driven health care organizations fail to control and manage the costs involved in the effective health care services provision, leading to the overall failure of these organization in caring out its activities proficiently. In addition, most consumers have not been willing to subscribe to the consumer driven health care plans as they don’t have enough trust in such organizations. As a result of this problem, most consumer driven health care plans have not been successful as the achievement of their goals and objectives has not been effectively realized (Porter & Teisberq, 2006)

Further, the consumer driven health care plans have also been faced by the problem of the complexity of the system inhibiting its success. Additionally, though innovation has been employed in the operations of these consumer driven health plans; the system has been too complicated to enhance the achievement of the organizations’ goals and objectives. The complexity of the consumer driven health care plans has further been triggered by the failure of these organizations in defining their internal terms and conditions comprehensively; for instance, whether extended families should not be covered or not (Christensen & Hwanq, 2008).

The factors influencing the challenges facing consumer driven health care plans

Perhaps, various factors have been observed to influence the barriers facing the consumer driven health care plans enhancing their inefficiency and failure to achieve their laid down goals and objectives. One factor that has been revealed to influence the challenges facing the consumer driven health care plans are corruption and the mismanagement of funds, and the resources belonging to these organizations. More specifically, the mismanagement of funds and resources belonging to consumer driven health care plans lead to cost inefficiency that has been observed to face these organizations (Herzlinqer, 2004).

Another factor which has been influencing the challenges facing the consumer driven health care plans is the poor innovations geared towards their management. Further, it has been observed that the innovation strategies meant to manage and control these organizations are poor; leading to their inefficiency and ineffectiveness (Christensen & Hwanq, 2008).

As it has been revealed, these consumer driven health care plans are of a great importance in ensuring the provision of health care among different groups and societies; as these services have been observed to be of a great significance to the society despite the many challenges facing them. Generally, the challenges facing the consumer driven health care plans have been found to be better and more effectively solved through innovations.
